The F-1 visa is the main U.S. visa for international students. It lets foreign students enroll in full-time academic or language programs at schools approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). To qualify, you must have a letter of admission from a U.S. school, show that you can pay tuition and living costs, maintain a residence abroad, and pay the SEVIS fee. As an F-1 student, you are allowed to work on campus part-time (up to 20 hours per week during school sessions). After you have studied for at least one year, you may also qualify for special training options: – Curricular Practical Training (CPT): Work or internships that are part of your curriculum and directly related to your major field of study.
– Optional Practical Training (OPT): Work authorization for up to 12 months after you graduate. (If you have a degree in a STEM field—science, technology, engineering, or mathematics—you can apply for an additional 24-month extension of OPT.)

These programs let you gain practical experience related to your studies. We can help you understand and apply for CPT or OPT so you can make the most of your F-1 status.
